Train from Pakistan to Turkey

The Istanbul to Tehran and Islamabad is expected to resume operation from 4th March 2021.

The key requirements for the framework have been fulfilled and the project was launched in 2009 under the economic corporation organization. The international corridor between the three countries has until now been used for test runs.

This project will greatly reduce the transit route of the goods from Istanbul to Islamabad. During the trails, the train took nearly 13 days to make the 650km journey which later reduced further to 11.5 days. On the other hand, transporting goods from European countries to Pakistan via seaway took around 45 days.

Besides Pakistan, Iran and Turkey, other countries like Azberbaijan, Afghanistan, Kazakhistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenisten, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan will benefit from the project.

The route and railway from Istanbul to Islamabad has been termed as “mutually beneficial” for the three countries and people. The transit will boost economic cooperation among the three countries and bring people closer.
